WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE LAST OF US
I will admit i did not have high expectations when i discovered that there was going to be a live action adaptation of the award-winning game The Last of Us, given previous tv adaptations of popular video-gaming franchises (Resident Evil), how could i be wrong?
The first episode of nine of The Last of us is a whopping 70 Minutes long, and it stays mostly true to its video-game counterpart throughout. The last of Us stars Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) as Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie Williams, as they navigate a post apocalyptic world in order to deliver Ellie to safety. They are supported by a steller cast inculding Anna Torv (Fringe) who plays Joel's partner Tess and Gabriel Luna (Agents of Sheild) as Joels estranged brother Tommy.
The first half of the episode gives us an insight to the possible origins of the Cordyceps Mutation which came from infected crops, then builds up to the action when the virus is unleashed until you are sucked back into the video-game where an identical sequence of events mirrors the video game up until Joel suffers the loss of his daughter, and you suffer that harrowing scene over again. The rest of the episode deals with the viewer being introduced to the character of Ellie who has been detained by the Fireflies a group who is fighting back against military rule and the character Tess who is a smuggler for hire.
The Episode ends when we discover that Ellie has been infected by the virus and appears to be immune and she along with Joel and Tess embark on the journey to the meeting point arranged by head firefly Marlene played by Mere Dandridge (Station 19). All in all i would give this episode a 9/10 as they changed a few scenes from the video-game they should have kept in such as how Joel first meets Ellie.
