Ian Brady And Myra Hindley - The Moors Murderers

Myra Hindley (1942-2002) and Ian Brady (1938-2017) were known as the 'Moors Murderers' because of their kidnap and murder of 5 children during the 1960s. Below is a list of the victims and their stories.

Pauline Reade (1947-1963) Aged 16

Pauline vanished on her way to a school dance, Pauline already knew Myra so she thought nothing of helping her retrieve a lost glove on Saddleworth Moor. Once she was there Ian Brady jumped her and beat her to death. Pauline lay undiscovered for 20 years until Myra was let out of jail to locate her body.

John Kilbride (1951-1963) Aged 12

John was abducted from a market and lured with the promise of alcohol, he was taken to Saddleworth Moor, where he was beatan and raped and finally strangled to death.

Keith Bennett (1952-1964) Aged 12

Keith Bennet was on his way to visit his grandmothers house when he was abducted, Myra drove to a layby on the moor and kept watch, while Ian dragged him to the moor raped and murdered him. Sadly Keith's body has never been found and its likely it never will. Keith's mother never stopped looking for him and she died never knowing where her son's body was.

Lesley Ann Downey (1954-1964) Aged 10

Lesley was at a fairground when she was abducted, Lesley was lured back to Brady and Hindley's home. There she was forced to undress and have photos taken of her all while being recorded. The tape of her desperate cries were played to the jury in Brady and Hindley's trial, the whole courtroom was said to have fallen silent. Lesley was raped before being killed and buried on Saddleworth Moor.

Edward Evans (1948-1965) Aged 17

Ian met Edward at Manchester Railway Station and invited him home, at this point Myra and Ian had become determined to involve Myra's brother in law David Smith in their murders, Brady demonstrated his evilness on Edward by striking him with an axe 14 times and then strangling him. David was so horrified by what he saw that he reported Brady and Hindley to the police the next day. This led to the exposure of Myra and Ian and their heinous crimes.
