Victims of the Titanic - Part One

The Titanic sank in 1912 with the loss of around 1,496 lives, it did not have enough lifeboats to rescue its 2,224 passengers and crew. Only 710 people survived that cold night in the Atlantic. This will be the first in a series of blog posts about the victims of the Titanic. Pictures will be supplied of the passenger if available, as sadly a lot of photos have been lost to time.
1. Anthony Abbing (1870-1912) Aged 41 (3rd Class Passenger)

Anthony was born in Cincinnati Ohio, and was a Blacksmith. Anthony was one of many locked down in the steerage when the ship sank, his body was never recovered. Anthony is remembered with a headstone in St Mary Catholic Cemetary in Ohio.
2. Rossmore Edward Abbot (1896-1912) Aged 16 (3rd Class Passenger)

Ross was from Rhode Island and was a Jeweller, he was on the ship with his mother and brother. They all jumped from the ship into the icy water during the sinking Ross and his brother died and their mother lived. Ross's body was recovered by The Mackay Bennett and was buried at sea.
3. Eugene Joseph Abbott (1899-1912) Aged 13 (3rd Class Passenger)

Eugene was from Rhode Island and was a student, he was on the ship with his brother and mother, during the sinking they jumped from the ship. Eugene and his brother died while his mother survied by getting into a lifeboat. His body was never recovered.
4. Ernest Owen Abbot (1891-1912) Aged 21 (Titanic Crew)

Ernest was born in Southampton and was the Titanic's Lounge Pantry Steward serving first class passengers. He was aboard the ship with his brother in law who was also a steward. Both of them died in the sinking and Ernest's body was never recovered.
5. Samuel Abelson (1882-1912) Aged 30 (Second Class Passenger)

Samuel was born in Russia and boarded the Titanic with his wife, Samuel like so many died in the sinking, however his wife survived. His body was never recovered.
6. Jirjis Yusuf Abi Sa'b (1867-1912) Aged 45 (3rd Class Passenger)

Jirjis was from Lebanon, he boarded the Titanic with his two cousins and son. On the night of the sinking he escorted his two female cousins to the last lifeboat before stepping back into the crowd. His body was recovered by the Minia and he is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetary, Halifax, Nova Scotia. His son died in the sinking too.
7. Dahir Abi Shadid (1893-1912) Aged 19 (3rd Class Passenger)

Dahir was born in Syria, he like a vast majority of third class passengers died in the sinking. His body was recovered by The Mackay Bennett and he is buried in Pennslyvania.
8. William Thomas Abrams (1878-1912) Aged 34 (Titanic Crew)

William was born in Hampshire and was a fireman aboard the ship, he died in the sinking likely along with other firemen who stayed behind to keep the lights on to the very end. His body was never recovered.
9. Mauritz Adahl (1881-1912) Aged 30 (Third Class Passenger)

Mauritz was born in Sweden and was a carpenter, he traveled on the Titanic with two friends. On the night of the sinking, he and his friend John helped their friend Adelia into a lifeboat. Both Mauritz and John died in the sinking and his body was recovered by The Mackay Bennett, he was buried at sea.
10. John Adams (1885-1912) Aged 26 (Third Class Passenger)

John was born in Devon and worked on a farm, there is speculation that he was on the Titanic fleeing a failed relationship. His body was recovered by The Mackay Bennett and he was buried at sea. He is memorialsed on his parent's grave in Devon.
